About Us

Abington Avenue is a United Reformed Church with a congregation of around 120 adults and children worshipping each Sunday.

We are a community of faith of all ages, drawn together by Jesus Christ to worship and serve God and exploring what it means to be His people today.

Sunday Morning - The Gathering (In the Upper hall)

The gathering is an easy-going, vibrant relaxed worship service especially suitable for those who are new to (or just looking into) the Christian faith, or who prefer a more informal style of worship. The service starts at 10:30 with coffee and pastries and finishes about noon followed by refreshments.

From about 11:15 onwards the children and young people join with those attending the Sunday Morning Worship for various age specific activities.

Sunday Morning Worship in The Sanctuary

Morning services in the Sanctuary start at 10.45am and finish by noon followed by refreshments. This service is ideal for those who prefer a more formal service and comprises a mixture of traditional and contemporary worship styles.

All family members are welcome for the first part of this service. Then from about 11:15 children and young people leave to join with those attending The Gathering for various age specific activities and sessions.

Joint Sunday Morning Services

These are held on occasions during holiday times and for for special occasions such as Harvest Festival.

Sunday Evening Worship

An evening service is held on the third Sunday of the month. The service tends to be a quieter reflective act of worship. It is led by various members of the Church and starts at 6.30pm in the chapel.

Holy Communion is included within the service on the first Sunday morning and the third Sunday evening of each month.

A variety of musical styles are a feature of our worship. As well as music from the organ our services include music from our worship band  and, once a month, our Orchestra leads the music for the service.
