Saturday July 31st 2010 - Festival of Faith

We are inviting our neighbours in the Abington area of Northampton to a day full of activities and to join us in celebrating God’s creation.

The Church will be open from 12 to 4 pm for visitors to have a guided tour of the premises, to hear about all of the activities that take place during the week as well as Sundays.

There will be a variety of craft sessions for children to attend and a range of music for all ages to enjoy.

The scouts will set up a rope bridge and demonstrate the fun that youngsters can have by joining the scouts, cubs, brownies, beavers and rainbows. There will be a barbeque in the car park for all to share.

Our visitors will be very welcome to join us at our Sunday morning service the following day, August 1st, to continue to celebrate God’s Creation.

October 2009 - Solar panels

A decision was taken at the beginning of the year to replace the Church electric Sadia water heaters with a more environmentally friendly system.

After some research into environmentally friendly systems we were given the opportunity to apply to the Government's ‘Low Carbon Buildings Programme’ and were awarded 50% of the costs of the installation of a solar powered hot water system.

In June 4 solar panels were fitted to the roof of the Church upper hall – these are easily visible from the Church car park. It is too early yet to access how much energy we have saved with this installation, however the controls show that between mid June up to early October the solar panels have provided just over 700 hours of power for the Churches water heating.

June 2009 Church Walk for Christian Aid.

This year, instead of doing a street collection Church goers did a sponsored walk in aid of Christian Aid. This took place at Fermyn Woods Country Park.

The walkers were joined by 32 elderly folk from the Church who went by coach and met the walkers at the visitors centre where we all enjoyed a chat, drink and refreshments.

We then went to Brigstock URC for a scrumptious tea prepared by the ladies of their church.

After the meal we went into the Church for a short service which included a talk on the work of Christian Aid.

Thanks to Jane Stapleton and Angela Jennings who organised the walk and Anne Webster and Judith Pettitt for organising the trip for the older folk. Special thanks and fond rememberance for Min Daigle whose kind legacy enabled the trip for the elderly to go ahead.
